Some collections deserve more than storage—they deserve a setting.
I built and installed this while employed at Valkyrie Woodwork and Design. This custom climate-controlled wine cabinet was designed to both preserve and showcase a collection of well over 200 bottles. Finished in white oak and built into the surrounding cabinetry, the unit has a strong architectural presence while allowing the wine itself to remain the focus.
The upper section features a series of angled display shelves, creating a layered presentation for the bottles and giving the collection a sense of movement. Integrated lighting throughout the cabinet adds warmth and depth, illuminating the bottles without taking away from the clean lines of the design.
Two enormous custom glass doors span the front of the cabinet, allowing the entire collection to remain visible while maintaining the controlled environment inside. With the doors open, the full depth and detail of the wine storage is revealed; closed, the glass transforms the collection into something closer to a private exhibition.
A substantial piece of custom millwork, designed around both the practical demands of wine storage and the pleasure of having a collection worth displaying.
