Designed by the wonderful people at Studio Roslyn in Vancouver, BC, this was one of those projects where nearly every detail had a purpose.
Built to house a serious audiophile stereo system and an extensive vinyl collection, this large walnut wall unit was designed to make the equipment, records and room feel like one cohesive piece.
There are plenty of details to discover. An angled mirror behind the turntable and amplifier creates an unexpected double reflection, while custom brass-lined vents and cable-routing plates—designed specifically for this piece—bring a little jewelry to some otherwise purely functional details.
Behind the fabric-covered drop-down door, additional audio equipment is concealed while still allowing remote controls to operate through the fabric. Behind the scenes, generous hidden pathways keep the considerable amount of wiring organized and out of sight.
Three figured-wood drawers provide a contrasting accent at the centre of the piece, along with a coloured inlay running through the gables. Below, large grain-matched walnut drawers continue the visual rhythm of the cabinetry.
And then there are the details you might not notice at first: integrated lighting in the upper cap and a concealed drop-down projection screen, turning the entire unit into something much more than a place to store records and stereo equipment.
